Pick and place case packers rely on different gripping mechanisms to efficiently handle and place products into cartons. Each has unique characteristics suited for different product types and packaging requirements.
Vacuum grippers use suction cups to lift and move products by creating negative pressure. They are ideal for smooth, non-porous surfaces like cartons, bottles, and plastic containers. This method enables high-speed operation and minimizes product damage. However, it requires a stable air supply and may not work effectively on textured or porous materials.
Mechanical clamp grippers use two or more arms to physically grasp products, making them suitable for heavy or irregularly shaped items. They provide a strong grip without relying on compressed air, reducing energy costs. However, excessive clamping force can damage fragile products, and the gripper design must be customized for specific product dimensions.
Robotic finger grippers mimic human hand movements, adjusting their grip to accommodate different product shapes. This makes them ideal for handling fragile or high-value items with precision. While highly versatile, they tend to operate at slower speeds and require more complex control systems, increasing initial investment and maintenance costs.
